A sole does not slide directly on the snow but on small water droplets created by the heating between the sole and the snow. The more the sole is in contact with the snow, the more it slides. Fluorine is a hydrophobic product (which repels water). The principle of a wax containing fluorine is to evacuate these water droplets as quickly as possible to increase the glide and accelerate the ski.
